  1. Rent in Perth is huge right now. We are renting ours out at $550 a week. My friend pays $350 a week for a c**p house in a good area but I wouldn't live in that house for that. Secret Harbour is a long way away by Perth standards. About a 40min drive to the city. But it's on the beach. I'd say you'd need about $200 a week for food.

A few years ago 40K would have been enough I'm not sure about now. Not for a family anyway!

  2. If you have to pay for your accommodation and also have a family, then you will probably need to have somebody in the family bringing in extra income.

  3. It depends on whether you have one income or two.  For a single income of $44,000 alone - will be quite hard to survive on.  Most migrants that I have known, accept on a low start and negotiate for better $ once they have settled in the company.

Secret Harbour is nice but too far away from Perth.  If you work in the city or close to the city, it will cost a lot on your fuel.

  4. That is probably an average Australian wage.

For Perth i believe you would be able to survive off that because housing is cheaper and things over there.

  5. I would find it difficult, most people that earn that amount would also have a spouse that is working. So if two people in one household earn this amount should be fine. One for a family to support - very difficult.

  6. yes 44,000 is enough for perth. i live in sydney so i dont know what secret harbour is like.

i think people can survive on 25,000 a yr.

that means u get $846 a week wich is good.

food would be depending how big your family is. for me 1 person is $100 but some people in aus can feed a family of four on $150 of groceries per week.

and the rest would b for watever you chose 2. all you need is money for rent and food wich depends on the sizeof your family

you can get a 2bedroom or 3 bedroom place for cheap for about $300 per week and groceries would maybe be $150 max sooo the most you'd spend a week would probly be $500 a week and u get $846 so u still can save @ least $200 a week.

if you havent found any place to live yet you should search www.domain.com.au and they have rental listing and prices so you can calculate how much you would spend on rent every week.

  7. $44,000 a year is not a bad wage to have to live on.Most people would consider that a fair pay. Secret harbour is a lovely place about 47kms south of Perth and about 15kms north of mandurah.the area has no main shopping centre or garage station .You would have to travel 10 minutes to rockingham or mandurah. It has a great little surf beach and fantastic a golf course. It is a up market area with some beautiful homes.I don,t know if you are going to be able to rent in Secret harbour with only the wage your on. You may have to think about looking in rockingham or mandurah areas . But if you can afford it and find a cheap enough rental house then great . You can pick up a nice place in an area like Kwinana for about $180 a week and living expenses should work out to around $250 a week including transport food electricity and water etc. Most pensioners live on half of what your earning. Good luck

  8. Average adult wage according to ABS is $63K per year in Perth, so it is well below average.

To rent in Secret Harbour you will need to earn better than that.

  9. i lived in $20k a year when i was a student so Im sure it can be done!

i guess if it is for just one of you (if you or your spouse isnt working also) then it would be very tough.

Do you have to live in Perth?

if you are both working and being paid that amount you will be fine. good luck :)

  10. You appear to be talking of the 457 visa minimum annual salary that has just gone up fro $41,850 to $43k something.

This figure is the minimum annual pay for a 457 visa skilled visa sponsored visa holder.

Quite seriously it is a pretty dismal figure to expect a "skilled person" to live on.

But then it depends on where you are coming from.

Secret Harbour is a great place, a little bit South of Rockingham.

  11. Ignore those who say Perth is cheap - housing has gotten extremely expensive here due to the mining boom and there's not much around - to rent or to buy.  Average rent is around $360.00 per week at the moment and you can expect a lot of competition for a home.  $44,000.00 is probably below average for an income - depending on what your job is.  Legal secretaries here are on $60,000.00.  If you have children and a spouse to support, you will find it very difficult.  Your spouse would need to get work as well to survive.

Secret Harbour is lovely - near the beach.  There is a new nearby train service that gets you into the city very quickly.
