Jaws Revenge is on tv tonight and I just watched it. I think watching it as a kid is the reason I can't swim in lakes. Watching it now I realized there is nothing to be scared of.

  1. i own acabin in Lake George, NY.   As th name might give away, there is a lake, and I swim in it

  2. Well that's good. I have been swimming in lakes since i could swim at all. There hasn't been anything that has happened ever! Go for it !

  3. I think I was about 15 when JAWS came out.  It scared the heck out of me!

For years, I had an irrational fear that maybe, somehow, a shark was in the same waters I was swimming, whether it was a river, lake, or the ocean.

In June, I was in the Greek island of Thassos, and since the water was crystal clear everywhere (and there are no sharks in that area) my fears dissipated.  Then this past week, I was in Wisconsin, and I swam quite a distance from the lakeshore to get to an island.  I think that finally I have conquered that fear... even though a whisper of it still lurks in the irrational part of my brain.

I will swim in lakes, but I'm still a bit uneasy.

  4. yes i doo all the time and love it especially at nite when its reallyy creepy lookin lol

  5. Yes. Swimming in a lake is generally fine, though private lakes or banned areas should be avoided. Also, take care in where you swim as all large bodies of water are capable of occasionally strong currents, unknown depths, and pollution, as well as diseases.

  6. lakes can be very fun I've never seen any thing but fish

  7. You can swim in a lake, but theirs always a chance of bacteria. At least that's what they say about our lake here in Tennessee. I'm sure all lakes have it. Plus we have BIG catfish in our lake and under currents. Just be cautious when going swimming.

  8. I swim in lakes, but I hate it when I touch the plants that grow on the lake bottom as I am swimming in and out.  It grosses me out and scares me a little bit, because you can't know what might be hiding in there.
