Because one day I went swimming with my BF and she wears contact lenses and I asked her, "Hey can you actually wear contact lenses while swimming and she said " Yeah you can."

I'm just asking to make sure if it is safe or not.

  1. i go to the beach with my contacts all the time.

    i haven't had an issue

  2. I always swim with my contact lenses in but I never open my eyes under water. I've heard your contacts can "float away" if you do but I don't know if that's true. I kind of doubt it. If I want to look around under water I just use goggles. You should probably use goggles anyway since the chlorine in pools can't be good for your eyes.

  3. It's fine as long as you don't open your eyes underwater.  If you plan to open your eyes underwater you will need to wear goggles.

  4. As long as you don't open your eyes underwater or as long as they don't get wet then they are fine. If they get wet they usually just come out.

  5. It's safe for your eyes, but not a good idea, because the water can wash them out, and you'll never find them in the pool.

I used to take mine out to go swimming, which left me almost blind, or leave them in and try to keep my head above water, which was annoying.

Now I wear a $6 pair of goggles, and there's no problem.

  6. I swam in mine.  The only thing is they can get dried out and you are taking a chance at loosing them, I'd keep my eyes shut underwater, you can open them, but their easy to loose.

  7. lol my best mate does too.

but she says your not meant to.

    if thats any hellp.

  8. Yeah. I do and I've never had any problems. But one time, on a school trip to Disney World, my friend went into the Typhoon Lagoon Wave Pool and got hit by a huge wave, and he lost his contact.

    =)

  9. As long as you don't open your eyes under water w/o goggles it is fine. If you do, they will wash out. I do it all the time and I wear Accuvue 2 Colors

  10. Yes you can swim while wearing contacts just like you can take a shower and go surfing and everything else in them. It is just like going without contacts. You can still see and everything. I do it all the time.

  11. I do.

It just depends on your being comfortable. But I wouldn't recommend it if you swim with your eyes open [underwater].

    =]

  12. no unless you want your eyes to burn

  13. ya totally just as long as you don't keep your eyes open underwater!

  14. I highly recommend your friend wear goggles if she swims with soft contacts on her eyes. Although not usually a problem, there are all kinds of nasty bugs living in swimming pools (and hot tubs as well). One of these creatures, called acanthameba, can cause horrible pain and damage to your eye, very often necessitating a corneal transplant. And the water can change the way your lenses fit, making them too tight and causing severe eye health problems.

So, either take lenses out for swimming or wear goggles. Better safe than sorry.

Do you also know you can buy prescription swimming goggles?

  15. sometimes, if they fit properly, you can get away with opening your eyes under water and everything, but i wouldn't recommend it, especially if there not 1-a-days, just get some goggles and your good to go.
