Can you switch from one police job to another???

Ive heard of Lateral...so i know you can switch.but is it possible to switch states completely? i plan on working for a deparment close to home..saving up money for 2 to 3 years and then transferring to the SFPD ( san Francisco). WIll they let me without having to start over as a rookie again???

You can switch states in some cases - but you need to get certification in the new state.  Some states have streamlined the process so you don't have to go through the full academy, and some states have not.  you will still be a rookie at the new dept however - no seniority transfers.
