We are going camping in florida and want to take our boat. does florida require a boating licence? We have an Alabama operating licence. The boat is registered in alabama, is this O.K.. How would I get charts of the water for Saint Andrews Bay? I know there are sand bars and want to learn where the shallow areas are.

  1. Yes, you can take your boat and use it in Florida, however, there is a time limit, which can vary from county to county.

When I was in Vero Beach, I believe that they gave you like about 90 days to become registered or take your boat out of state.  Your operator's license will be good.

For charts of St. Andrew's Bay, and Panama City area, you would be well advised to retain a copy of a NOAA chart of the area, as well as a recent cruising guide for the area, this guide will generally keep you informed of more than just the sand bars.  A good cruising guide will provide you with moorages, dining and entertainment of interest to boaters of all persuasion.

Always enjoy cruising, where ever you go.

  2. You can operate your boat in Florida as long as it is legally registered in Alabama.

For charts you can visit the NOAA web site or you could order a set from a local marine store.

Glad to see you are preparing before the trip.

Good Luck and Boat Safe! !
