Can you take a firework apart and take out the gunpowder?

  2. Yes - did it all the time.

  3. It's flash powder, but yes.  And be very careful with them, it is very dangerous to be messing around with flash powder.  If you wish to put it into an M80 or such, dump it onto a sheet of paper, then pour it in the m80's tube.

  4. I'm guessing that you can, just don't be around and sparks or open flames...

  5. Now a days the lifting charge in mortars is a rice/ gunpowder form. This spaces the gun powder out more so that it can burn thru better. Also the stars themselves inside the mortar (The glowing balls you see in the sky) are rather hard to ignite with out a good bang. So be careful when trying ignite this stuff.

  6. Yes...we used to empty out bangers and light the powder.

    It goes "Whooooof!!!!" in a big cloud of smoke. We called it a "genie".

  7. Yes of course. Just don't do it in the vicinity of a flame or excessive heat. Avoid making any sparks. Gunpowder, after all, is dangerous,
