  1. My sister student teaches clarinet and takes classes(college) during semesters.  Maybe I'd make sure with your school or university's policies on that.

  2. Student teaching is considered a full load.  You only attend ST seminar during that term.  At least that's the way it is at Ohio teaching preparatory institutions.

  3. I don't think most universities suggest that you do unless you are not student teaching all day five days a week. There is A LOT of work to do during student teaching.  If you had a class (or even another job) on top of that, you would eventually run yourself out! Besides, you should really be done with your classes by the time you student teach.

  4. Depends on your university. At my university, student teaching counted as a 12 hr load and from time to time they would pull us out for  seminar (their version of professional development). Outside of that you were allowed to take up to two more classes if you needed them to graduate but those classes could not meet during time when you were required to be at the school. Since I taught high school and had to be there for the school day and tutoring (8:30a-4:30p), classes wouldn't have been feasible.

  5. Depends on the University.  Some yes, some no.

Mine allowed it, it was extremely hard.

Kiss a private life goodbye if your university allows it, or even requires it.

  6. A better question would be... Can you attend your own class for college credit? - No

But you can take other classes for credits.

  7. I don't know if it's forbidden or not, but I don't know if you really should. Teaching isn't an 8:00 to 3:00 job. There is a lot of planning involved. The planning isn't just a matter of what your lessons will be for the next day or so, but also your own personal  time( you do have a life).

Take time to know the names of your students. Seating charts are good for that. Think ahead. What if your lessons bomb? What if a few or all students finish an assignment earlier than expected? Keep a plan B ready...always.

I don't want to sound discouraging because it's a great job and I love teaching, but as a student teacher, you have so much to learn and I wouldn't want you to spread yourself too thin or burn out. Don't forget, you still have to get familiar with the curriculum. Above all work on classroom management skills. That's a lot to do. You don't need to be on both sides of the desk in one day.

Good Luck and most sincerely, Have Fun!!
