  1. I have not tried cuttings because my crape myrtle has started from seeds.  I have four in my yard and I continually see more seedlings.  If you do choose to take cuttings dip the root end in a rooting hormone like root tone.  Sometimes things will root in water.  Another way to try is by layering, Wrap a wet paper towel around a node .  cover the towel with plastic wrap.and tie  it around the branch on the upper and lower side.  Hopefully after a while roots will grow from the node under the towel.  Then cut that branch off and plant.

  2. Crape Myrtle is easily propagated from softwood or hardwood cuttings using a 'quick dip' of IBA (IndolebutyricAcid) 1000-1200ppm.

Cut in the winter, 8" peices of 1/8-1/4" wood. soak in hormone (1hr.),

bunch up in peices, bury in the ground over winter, pull up in spring and observe root formation.

    Alot of work, huh?
