ok, this is annoying me now, he/she is obviously british, we say aeroplane, cause it makes sense, stick aero into the dictionary and you will find a definition explain how it makes sense, AIRplane just sounds stupid, because what else is an aeroplane going to fly through?

Yes -- as long as your British aeroplane doesn't land here in the USA because, as is easily seen by answers above, some would insist that it be renamed an airplane -- lol
