Okay that probably sounds stupid, but I was thinking about the metal detectors in the airport, would a library book set them off, because don't they have some sort of magnets in as well?

Thanks

  1. You can take library books with you in your hand luggage with no problem.  They will just hand screen them at security if necessary.

  2. Yes, you can.

  3. I am pretty sure that when you check a book out, they demagnetize the magnet.  Otherwise the alarm in the enterence of the library would be set off.

  4. I took a library book in my carry on without any problem.  If it were to set off a detector, they'd just hand inspect the bag.  I've never seen a sign at an airport saying to keep that item separate like they do laptops or carry on toiletries.

  5. yes, ive done it before... they dont care

  6. Yes you can.  The airport scanners are looking for metal (weapons) and liquids/gels.

The little strip in a library book will only set off a security point that is set to pick up that specific signal.  You have nothing to worry about.
