  1. Morphine Sulfate Injectable Solution is frequently given to patients in a subcutaneous dose.  When this method of administration is used, the patient or a lay care giver are commonly taught to administer the medication.  There are many times it is not efficient to have a nurse drop by the house several times a day to administer morphine injections, especially as this is usually given on an as needed basis, so the nurse would not be readily available.

The term subcutaneous is the commonly accepted form.  However, subcutaneous refers to both layers of skin, the epidermis and the dermis.  Sub-dermal refers to below the second layer of skin or the dermis.  This is the same point, just a different method of expression.

  2. I am assuming by "sub dermal" you mean subcutaneous (SQ).  Subcutaneous injections are injections placed into the subcutaneous layer of the skin.  This is the fatty layer below the epidermis.

Morphine Sulfate is available as a SQ injection.  SQ, IM and IV forms are going to be administered by a medical professional whereas oral forms can be prescribed and taken by a lay person (the patient).
