Can you take pictures of light rail stations or light rail cars?

i have heard that you couldnt take photos of either light rail cars or stations,but i have taken photos of both when i go on vacation to places that have light rail or some kind of transportation system and had no problem

It will depend entirely on the laws of the country you are visiting. In the UK there have been problems with some railway station photography, caused by jobsworth security guards. As Cliff pointed out, it would vary from country to country, and he gave a great sample of over zealous "rent-a-cops".

In the USA, they simply can NOT prohibit it... though in "Trains" magazine recently, there was an article regarding Chicago cops stopping tourists from taking pics.

I take pics here in California... just remain on public property, and snap away !!

JUST FYI, I recall being in Seoul in 1989 and taking pics at the airport COULD get you arrested or SHOT !!

its legal as long as you are on public proberty (dont try to

get onto private property

but you still may run into some over zealous police offciers

or secuirty officers..

In Philadelphia you have to apply in person for a photgraphic permit from SEPTA Public Relations section, 1234 Market Street, Center City, Philadelphia. I would have been arrested whilst photographing a streetcar had I not produced the permit: the policeman was all smiles afterwards

In virtually all places it is legal as long as you are in a public place.  I am only familiar with American operations though.

Sure you can. In some coun ties there are limitations/prohibitions. So better ask an employee, if you can. Just to avoid that you run intio troubles.
