Can you take piercings out soon after you get them?

My school doesn't allow piercings, (Excluding ear lobes) but see, I really want a lip ring. I know for earrings you gotta keep them in for a long time but is it like that with lip/facial piercings? (Which I'm assuming it is.) if so, how can I keep my lip ring, not wear it during school but still put it in during the weekends and after school without the pierced flesh becoming infected or something?

  1. you cant.  if you take it out for school everyday it will close up and likely get infected from you taking it in and out everday.  wait till you graduate and then you can pierce everything.

  2. The mouth heals faster than most commonly pierced areas. You should keep something in the hole for about two weeks. You can use fishing line and simply make a loop around your lip and through the hole, or you can find retainers at most of your Hot Topic or Torrid retail stores. Retainers are smaller than the actually piercing, and usually clear.

  3. It will get very infected and if you pull it out every day it would cause the hole to get bigger and bigger you will have to leave it in 1 month before you can take it out whenever you want! I suggest getting it perced on Christmas holidays and take it out for school!

  4. It will be more prone to infection, and facial peircings do tend to close pretty quickly.  When i had my lebrae peirced i could take it out for hours an hours an it was fine.. i actually had it out about a year an was able to get it back in without much effort.  But my menroe which i have currently closes up within 5 minutes of taking it out, and it is soooo painful to get it back through.  Mouths heal very quickly though, and taking it out an in could deffinatly put you at risk for an infection if you arent careful.  I would get a clear plug to put in it, or just put the peircing back in everytime you are in between classes.  It really all depends on your body and how it heals, if you dont mind taking the risk you can always try it out.. however taking it out within a week of getting it peirced its probably bound to heal right back up.  So even try the plug like i said an see how long you can get away with it, atleast until its healed enough to try to take it out for longer periods of time.   GL

  5. You can wear the earrings that are transparent and they're a straight stick. It's not too long so it's not very noticeable. You stick it in there and it will not close on it.

  6. I recently worked at a peircing place. You have to keep your peircing in for about 6 weeks. After that you can change it but you must have a peircing in there for about 1 year or it will close or get infected.

  7. The only way to keep a piercing open without it being visible is by using a retainer. They're clear and small and hardly noticeable. That's what most people with jobs that don't allow lip piercings do.

There are a few problems for you though...

A fresh piercing should not be be messed with for a while. Preferably until it heals. So taking a piercing in and out can cause problems. Not always, but you're definitely increasing your risk.

Another problem is the fact that you want a ring...Your piercing would be a captive ball ring and those cannot be changed with out the help of a piercer or good plyers in my experience. Once they're closed. So you can't really alternate between things frequently with those.

If you still really want to do it, I say get a stud at first instead of a ring and a retainer. Then when you need to, carefully switch up the piercing. Some would say this in absolute no, but in my experience if you're careful and hygenic, there's not much of a problem. I seriously recommend Bactine which is a basic antiseptic that comes in a spray bottle. This works wonders on keeping a piercing clean. Don't overuse it though. Only twice a day.

An unavoidable downside to changing unhealed piercings often though is that it takes much longer to heal that way...

I would have said pierce your lip at the beginning of summer, but it's a little too late for that. Christmas break will give you some time for healing though.

Good luck, and if this is all too complicated, you could always claim that lip piercings are part of your deep religious beliefs. They can't say no to that. They can get in heaps of trouble. Heh.
