Can you take taps off tap shoes?

is there any way to take taps off of tap shoes to make them into character shoes? thanks!

I've just taken taps off a pair of shoes. They had rivets that went through the sole and split open on the inside. Simply by levering carefully with a small screwdriver and then a pair of pliers on the head of the rivet, the split closed and the rivet pulled clear.
