Can you take the test to become CPA without having a degree?

Without a degree in Accounting or any Accounting courses...in other words can I just buy one of those test prep books and study whats going to be on the exam....are there any prior requirements before they let you take the exam

  1. You will not be able to sit for the CPA exam without a bechelors degree of some sort. There is no requirement that your degree be in Accounting, just that you have a bachelors degree. Additionally, each state has its own requirements as to how many hours of accounting courses (usually between 24-30) must be taken in order to sit. If you don't have ANY accounting courses you will not be able to sit for the exam.
