  1. The reason the airlines don't like passengers to use cellphones is because the phones can interfere with the airplanes' navigation equipment. Trains don't have things like radar, etc. Navigation is more line-of-sight on a train, so cellphones won't interfere with anything.

  2. in the uk on some trains you can but it annoys some people on other uk trains for example gner have a quiet coach which is coach b you are not allowed to use cell phones or anything that will disturb other passengers

  3. Yes. The sat uplink on the trains are not interfered by them . The coverage can be hit or miss because the cell companies focus on interstates for rural cell towers. As for aircraft. Cell phones in no way interfere with nav equipment. The FAA bans them because the technology is constantly changing and they don't want to wait for a frequency to be used that could interfere. Now it is there mostly for a courtesy for other passengers. Those people will drive you nuts enough we don't want to add loud talking on top of that.

  4. yep as long as you don't shout

  5. yes provided you are in a service range and of course there are roaming cost that can be costing you a bit more

  6. As long as you can get a signal, you can talk.  There isn't any sophisticated navigation equipment in the cab.

  7. Yes, you can.  There may be times when you won't be able to get service due to the fact that a lot of the track will be in out of the way, rural areas, but you are allowed to talk on cell phones.  There should be a dressing room in each car with an outlet for when you need to charge your phone.
