Okay I'm going to be attending OHVA (online home school) and they send you a loaned computer. Can anyone tell if it is laptop or desktop. Here is the only information they tell you on their website:

Computers provided by the Ohio Virtual Academy follow these technical specs:

Speed: 1.8 GHz or better

RAM: 512 MB (minimum)

Disk space: 20 GB or more

CD-ROM or DVD drive

Monitor: 15-inch flat panel

Audio: 16-bit sound card

Modem: 56 kbps (minimum)

Microphone and speakers

Operating system: Windows XP SP2

Microsoft® Internet Explorer version 6.0

Adobe® Reader®

Macromedia Flash™

Shockwave™

QuickTime®

McAfee® Virus Protection

Can anyone tell?

  1. Maybe a desktop?  why would they mention 15" flat panel

  2. sounds like a desktop because of the 'flat panel' and 'speakers'

for a desktop thats a pretty dated system...

  3. Judging by the 1.8GHz I would say it was a laptop.

  4. Because of the 15-inch flat panel, it seems like a desktop to me. If it's a laptop it would say 15.4 inch widescreen or something. And the microphone and speakers, make it seem more like a desktop. Seems like an older computer to me.

I vote desktop!!! or a mini desktop at the best

It won't be too bad for a desktop because it says "flat panel" which means you don't get the old CRT big monitors, good job.

Plus, laptops cost more. And you think they would loan you something that is more costly for them? Not very likely.

  5. It looks like a desktop since they mention Monitor is a flat panel. Its not one of those big size monitors that take up the whole table but is the flat type which is quite thin.

  6. You can't tell from the information given

The only clue is the 15" flat panel screen, that is a fairly typical laptop size, but is undersized for current desktop machines (15" monitors were all the rage in 1998).

    Suggest you contact the organization.

  7. My guess is that it is a desktop.

  8. Ignore those who say its a laptop...

It is actually a desktop because

    1) Sound card... laptops dont use sound card.. they have integrated

    2) 20GB HDD. a desktop form 2001 has 20gb hdd but there is not 20gb HDD made for a laptop.

    3) 15 inch FLAT PANEL. laptops usually is 15.4" not exactly 15 inch.

So that thing is a desktop (unfortunately?)

Anyway for your information, since the speed is 1.8ghz, the computer is aorund 5 years old... hehee

  9. This is desktop the spec mentions Monitor: 15-inch flat panel

  10. it could be any...im guessing a laptop though

  11. sounds like a desktop because of the flat panel monitor

  12. Sounds like a laptop, 15 inch screen would be very small for a desktop, also farily low spec for a desktop.

  13. Judging by the 1.8GHz I would say it was a laptop.

  14. I would say it's a old desktop from a office that was hocked up to a server.
