I am considering retiring in or outside the U.S.

Looking for a place where my money goes far; a simple life where my contribution to the local economy will have a good impact on the local population

I wouldn't rule out moving to a place that is economically challenged

I am a retired Vietnam Veteran in my mid-fifties

I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian, so the ideal area would be somewhere Orthodox worship is easy to locate

I have a TAX FREE pension of about $3,000.00 a month

COLA increases yearly and "no off-set" Social Security coming in 7 years to increase my income.

Also, the U.S. VA will pay for most health care claims I submit from outside US.

Some ideas: Romania, Bulgaria and Eastern Europe in general.

Also Southeast Asia and Latin America.

Not worried about culture shock.

My avocation is singing and songwriting.

I'm a retired Registered Nurse, not looking to do nursing, but having a lot of knowledge to share as volunteer.

Thank you for serious, informed answers.

  1. The Expatriate Handbook might have some useful information to help you make your decision: http://www.us-expatriate-handbook.com/co...

  2. You should pick a US city that has a good VA hospital and access to a large military base. Those eastern block countries you named won't have either.

  3. Your intentions sound good but a few months out of the US and you will die to return. For one minute if you think you would be accepted in Eastern Europe forget it.The Taxi drivers monitor this site and will be waiting for you.
