Where can I buy an inexpensive candle warmer?

How do they work - melt all the wax in the candle at once?

They melt from the bottom up. It takes awhile for the whole thing to melt, depending of course on how much wax is in the container. Friends of mine have a cat, and they don't like real candles, but the candle warmer does a great job and there's no flame. Get a pretty good candle. Not too cheap. The better ones have a better fragrance and they can be smelled over a bigger space. When I go into my friend's house it never smells like litter box. I think they are great.

You can get one at Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc.  It's like a hot plate.  You plug it into the wall and put the candle jar on top of it and it warms the candle.  Sometimes (depending on how long you have it plugged in) the candle wick will fall down into the (now) liquid candle.  When you unplug the candle warmer the candle will cool down and become hard again, so the wick will then be inside of the candle.

Be careful with using warmers with jar candles.  Many candle companies do not recommend the use of warmers with their candles.  The build up of heat on the bottom  of the candle causes the wax to melt and expand but the wax on the top is still cold and solid which may make the jar explode!

You may want to consider getting a simmer pot or tart burner instead.  Simmer pots can be used with tarts or melts and votive candles (if the simmer pot is large enough).

I think you could probably get one at an everyday store like walmart, target maybe dollar general or hallmark?

Eventually all the wax does melt till it is just a big jar of liquid...then when you turn it off it obviously all hardens back up.  

Someone gave me a warmer and a candle as a gift...maybe it just wasn't a strong enough candle but you couldn't even tell it was on...I gave it away.
