  1. lana lobell horse farms were a case of the child dwarfing the parent. lana lobell was a manufacture of womens clothing, in the garment district of New York City, where the owners of the company had interests in harness racing, both as a hobby and as a business. Almost all the foals when sold as yearlings had lobell as their second name. The first famous racehorse that the farm stood as a stallion was the great race horse " Overtrick". the family was Levitts as i recall, and do not believe there ever was a Lana, any more than there ever was a Betty Crocker.

Hanover (shoe) Farms is also a like unfolding, as the Shoe company and the horse breeding operations, split apart many years ago, but some of the older classic stake winner list Hanover Shoe Farms, as the owner, during the 1920s, 30s and early 40s.

the lobell operations did have farms in New Jersey, and where a huge reason for the sucess of the Meadowland sports complex, as found in the swamp-garden state, they also had smaller farms in Pennsylvannia, and Florida, and a joint venture stallion station in Canada.

the Levitts where not unsecessful, but were almost always a second tier, behind more sucessful breeders, such as Hanover, Castleton, Bluechip farms, Stoner Creek, Walnut Hall, Arnstrong Brothers and some others.

This is NOT to say they did not have good or even some great racehorses.

Ytou could contact the U S Trotting Association in Columbus Ohio and they should be able to give you additional help.
