Can you tell me about texas region numbers?

i was just informed that texas is divided up by regions ( i dont mean geographically like the hill country and the piney wood or whatever, but i mean numbers. i was told that for schools and things if you go outside a certain region it matters. i'm not from texas at all but i plan to move there. can you explain which regions are which numbers, can you find a map?
