It is situated along the banks of the Red River of the North and is in a very flat region called the Red River Valley.

It has a city population of about 50,000 people.

The University of North Dakota is in Grand Forks.

The latest census data shows that the racial makeup of the city was 93.35% White, 0.86% African American, 2.75% Native American, 0.96% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, and 0.58% from other races.

The city has a relatively diverse economy, but is primarily dominated by agriculture.
