  1. 1. never keep lovebirds and budgies together. lovebirds literally kill and eat budgies!

    2. personally i think a budgie would be a better pet. in my experience working with birds over the last 8 years, ,there is only about 1 in 10 lovebirds that will make a good pet. the rate of good pets in budgies is much higher. budgies are easier to tame down too.

    3. lovebirds bite a lot harder and a lot more frequently than budgies!

  2. I dont know much about budgies but I know about love birds. Love birds are very loving if you spend time wtih them. I had one he had such a personality and we were so close he would follow me every were sit on my shoulder and watch what I was doing. Everything I ate he had to try he loved milk. I know it sounds silly bout the food but he wanted to try it. If you dont think you will be able to spend time with your love bird almost everyday then I wouldnt get one. If you dont spend enough time with them they can get really mean and bit and just not what to have anything to do with you. Also if your get two love birds you have to spend extra time with them becuase they will bond faster with each other and ignor you if you dont play with them enough.

  3. growing up, my grandparents had budgies.. they all had their own personalities.. they would just fly and sit on your finger and thats about it..

i now have a lovebird.. although he wasnt tame when I bought him.. i am slowly slowly working on it now.. he is no longer afraid of me.

i think if this bird is your first. then go with a budgie.. if youve had birds before go with a lovebird.

i love my lovebird.. i would not miss trade him in for anything..

    they are extremely beautiful too..

though he can be very loud when he hears other birds but I have narrowed this down by ensuring windows are closed etc.

lovebirds also love to destroy things like paper.. its hilarious to watch.. so make sure you dont have any important documents around them..

if oyu are to get one.. i suggest you get one that jumps on hands already..

  4. Budgies and lovebirds should not be kept together, because the lovebirds tend to be agressive towards other smaller birds.  But NO, lovebirds will NOT eat budgies (as stated in some previous answers).  If lovebirds ever bite you, it will HURT, but it will almost always be in self defense.

Keep in mind: the larger the bird, the messier, and the louder.  The lovebirds I have took longer to socialize with me than my parakeets, and my parakeets were easier to train than my lovebirds.  Also, Lovebirds' chirps are louder more high pitched.

    Other good birds are finches.

I have four zebra finches, and although they cheep a LOT, the cheeps are a lot quieter and even peaceful-sounding.  Male finches have a special song   ^_^   They are very sociable with other finches.  They are hard to train, but it's not impossible (for ex: finches flying to you when you whistle).  They don't tend to play with hanging toys and suches as parakeets and lovebirds do (though lovebirds would mainly tear toys up)

  5. I've had them all. Budgies will chirp all day long. Lovebirds are loud and messy. They p**p every where even while they climb on the side of the cage. They leave a big mess on the floor. I simply don't like them. My favorite birds are cockatiels.

  6. Love birds are a really good choice if you want to play with them often. Get one if someones almost always going to be home (only gone for a couple hours at a time) and two if your not home so much. They should be out for around an hour a day, all though with the seven i have thats a little hard to do. If you dont think that you can play with them for an hour, that doesnt really matter. let them sit on your shoulder or head for an hour while you go about your buisness. they love to watch you on the computer and are fine if you want to read a book.

They need to eat fruits and veggies everyday to be healthy, in addition to bird seed made for lovebirds or small hookbill birds. the things my birds like to eat are: carrots, broccoli, lettuce, tomato, and apple. I havnt tried feeding them peppers, but you can feed them that and mine arnt a huge fan of cucumbers and refuse to eat banana. but you can try all of those. The seeds and juices around apple seeds are VERY toxic and shouldnt be fed to them. make sure you take them out after about two hours before the bactiria spreads.  Despite what you hear two lovebirds will still make a good pet and one lovebird will not die if its alone. They are really really sweet birds when there tame but if they get untame... thats another story. it will probly take a long time to retaim them, depending on how tame they were and their bites are nasty. they hurt really bad but if you handle your bird properly or often enough you dont have to worry about that. People always say that your lovebird wont be tame if its in a cage with another bird but my tamest birds are the four that share a cage. I dont take all of them out everyday though and theyre still tame. it takes a bit for them to turn nasty on you. Talk and wistle to them lots they really like that and that helps them learn how to mimic a wistle too!! only one of my birds can make nice wistles so dont count on it too strongly.

if you cant get your birds to eat their veggies be patient. put them in its cage day after day for a couple hours and eventualy your lovebird will want to try it, especially if he sees you eating it. say you put some carrot chunks in there and they wont try it, you take a piece of carrot and (forgetting all your table manners) eat it infront of you bird. Open your mouth a lot so that they can see your eating it and then wistle a little when your done to let them know that you enjoyed it. If your the one who feeds it and plays with it then your lovebird will trust you and consider you to be the leader of the flock and try it as well. Just make sure that you dont take a bite of food and then give it to the bird cuz your sylivias really bad for birds. too much bacteria.

Too much dairy is bad for them too. i wouldnt give them very much. i read somewhere that someone gave there lovebirds really little amounts of yogurt but ive never tried it, it can be hard on their stomaches.

make sure you get your bird lots of toys and a big cage. Lovebirds are great pets!!! and really really seet when there tame. also they are beautiful. some lovebirds are really blaned and colourless but mine arent. they are very bright and coulorful and great pets!!!
