  1. french people are friendly sometimes although they can be snotty too. i just recently cameback to the u.s.a from france it is a beautiful country and paris is a great city. i seemed to notice that since i am almost fluent in french they didnt seem to think i was american until i was around my american friends and we were making all kinds of noise. they seem to be much more conservative than us.

  2. I find the people in France to be very friendly if I am friendly.  I live in a French-speaking country, and don't have a language barrier.  I find Paris better all the time.  Tourism is a major industry for them, it is in their interest to be friendly.  My favourite part of France these days is the southwest, (Toulouse, Carcassonne area), nice and warm and really relaxed.  The regional dialect down there is fun and easy to learn too, and the people exceptionally friendly.

If you don't speak French, learn at least enough French to be polite "bonjour, merci, ou sont les toilettes svp?...."

Generally Americans and the Brits can tend to be boisterous and overwhelming and English speakers are notorious for thinking everybody should speak their language everywhere or there's something the matter with them.  That gets obnoxious.

By the way, there are two statues of liberty in the world, one in Paris and one in New York.  Google this before you go so you don't embarrass yourselves when you are looking at the French one from the Eiffel Tower......Here's a link to that bit of history.

Hope this isn't overshare, but I feel the way you do about France, so it's hard to contain myself!

  3. As a frenchman, I find your comment lovely.

    That's great to hear this...

Friendly, yes, I suppose we are...

May I venture to give you an advice?

Learn some basic words of french... (bonjour, merci, .....)

Use them wenever you can. This can appear stupid, but in fact this is really important. This is all the difference between  the contempting tourists that we sometimes see and the person who wishes to visit the country in a deeper way, and who tries to communicate with "natives"!!

But for God's sake do not visit only paris!!!!

There are so many things to see!!

I give you my email in case you need further information.

    Do not hezitate  !!

  4. For the most part. I don't think France is any different from most countries.

  5. It is a lovely country.

In Paris, I was also treated very nicely, although I do speak French. I too was with a group of my American friends, and most people didn't mind us too much. In fact, although I was reluctant to speak at first, when I finally had the courage to ask a lady for directions, she praised my French and hoped my friends would learn it too.
