And google freelancing... there are loads of sites that offer freelance design work

Designing old fashion static websites using HTML and Javascript (and, maybe, a little bit of php to get some form of dynamism) does NOT pay: expect no more than 10-15$ per page!

To earn money from developing websites, you need to offer fully interactive solutions in AJAX (That's what people want nowadays).

I develop these applications and my BASIC fee is 4,500us$!

The problems are:

1. Clients do not understand WHY it takes 3 months to design an interactive site, while "other designers" can develop a static site in a few days...

2. Clients want full web2.0 ajax for the price of static pages...

( I have seen requests for a clone of Yahoo Answers with a maximum bid of 500$ !!!  Sorry, this is worth 20,000$+! )

If you use any IDEs (ie Dreamweaver, Frontpage), forget it!  You will never achieve anything.  You have to code.
