Can you tell me how to remove manhole cover?

I had a new patio block paved a couple of months ago. old patio was covering a drain and manhole so had both left open with manhole cover being a brick built one to match patio.. things is my drains are blocked and I cannot get rods through them so need to lift manhole.... BUT it will not shift, its tight shut and will not budge. i have rang man who fit it and he said it should loosen up but it hasn't and he didn't turn up to look at it either.

the cover has got two hidden plastic handles but one has snapped.

can you advise?

Try to prise it up a little by going round the edge with a strong screwdriver. It has most probably rusted on the inside a bit. When you replace it put grease on the frame so that it will act as a seal for any sewer smell. It should have been greased when it was first put down, then you wouldn't have this problem.

as a last resort u might have to break it open

It should work itself loose. Try tapping it with a hammer round the edges and see if that helps to loosen it it all.
