My Computer has the following

Intel Celeron M540 Socket 479 mPGA

and I want to upgrade it to the following

Intel® Core™ Duo T2600 (sSpec # is SL8VN), the package type of which is Socket 478 pPGA.

Will I be able to do this

  1. You can't use Socket 478 processor on a Socket 479.  They are not electrically compatible even though physically you can install the processor, it will not work.


  2. Nope. Different sockets.  

  3. You can,t upgrade to a core duo but you can upgrade to Pentium M, Celeron M and Tulatin M Pentium III.

    Why not purchase a package deal motherboard & chip set.

  5. I don't think you'll be able to because of the differnet sockets. If you speak to Intel, they'll recommend what you do, which may include getting a new motherboard.

    If you do end up having to get a new motherboard, I think you're better off just buying a new computer from someone like HP or PC Specialist (You can personalize these computers)

  6. if u can findout the exsact mainboard model number theres a site you can put it into and it will tell you whats the max it will take...ill find it and post it later...
