  1. The outlets in the rooms are a unique design that are recessed into the wall about 1/2 inch or so. You do not need a converter for MOST accessories that are corded such as hairdryers, curling irons, razors, etc. as the outlets do accept the plugs.  HOWEVER, if you have an item such as a battery charger that has a plug built-in, you do need an adapter that basically is an extension for the plug.  These adapters are available in the lobby gift shop for $1 USD. No biggie. BTW, the rooms do have hairdryers that work on both 110 v & 220 v so you can dry your hair very quickly, as well as an iron & ironing board, and a coffee maker. The hair dryers in the room don't do a great job.  It looks like a vacuum cleaner hose! If you have very thick hair it might have taken days to dry!

Here's the Iberostar Dominicana review from http://www.iberostar-board.com

Hola everyone, I just woke up after our red-eye flight home and thought I'd get a headstart on this review while my memories are still fresh. So..... here goes ! Please forgive if I ramble and if you have specific questions that I can answer go ahead and ask or send me a PM.

Our outbound flight only afforded us a scant few hours of sleep as we were as excited about leaving as a couple of kids waiting for a trip to Disneyland.  We arrived at the resort at 10pm local time and were welcomed with a most welcome cocktail and very express check-in.

We had the foresight to e-mail the Room Division Manager and make several room requests, which we found were granted as best as possible.  We were a bit disappointed to find out that rooms with a direct view of the sea were not available due to the layout of the buildings.  We did however have a view of the ocean if you were out on the balcony which was very nice.  There were a few problems with the rooms that unfortunately are a fact of life, even with the most diligent preparation.  We had these problems addressed immediately at the Front desk  and, under the personal supervision of the afore-mentioned manager, were attended to at once.  The items addressed were of sufficient note that if not fixed, would really have soured the trip, but at the same time were minor enough to be rectified at once.  Kudos to the maintenance and housekeeping staff for their rapid response to the concerns raised.

One final note on the rooms, ... both had a special welcoming gifts of a beautiful flower arrangement, a fruit plate of several exotic varieties, a bottle of rum and a special romantic towel art done for us. Again a very nice welcome !

We again were impressed that Iberostar does offer light food fare almost 24 hrs a day at the main buffet area, closing only for an hour or so for set-up & clean-up for the lunch and dinner meals.  A simple salad, burger, and fries never tasted so good !

The morning arrived and were up nice and early to tour the grounds and make note of the improvements made since our last visit.  Most notable are the boardwalk down to the beach, making the beach area most accessible to mobility-challenged guests, the health bar serving a variety of fresh fruit juices, many new palapas pool side making numerous shady spots available throughout the day.  The towel game for reserving spots is alive & prospering for those who like to stay in specific locations pool-side or on the beach, but is not a problem that prevents others from finding a good spot elsewhere.  We did not find that people were abusing the system by 'reserving' a spot early, then disappearing for a good part of the day leaving these spots unattended.

As a side note. topless is not allowed poolside and is posted on most palapas.  That being said, we almost daily saw someone ignoring the rules and did not see any staff chiding them.

    Part II - The Food

We booked the ala carte's the first morning there and just went with the Oriental (x2), Gourmet & the Steakhouse.

Of the three, the Oriental was by far the best based on the food, surroundings, and service.  The appetizers were incredible and varied from sushi to spring rolls. The service was exemplary, but not overdone. We did this restaurant twice & the second time around was every bit as good as the first. Maria had our beds covered with rose-petals while we were at dinner the first time - very nice ending to a perfect night !

The Gourmet experience was one that I was looking forward to; especially since we were celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversaries and the night was a special "Romantica" theme.  The ladies were to receive a rose on entering, but ours did not come until after the appetizers were served.   A trio of musicians went from table to table serenading the guests which was very nice. The food & presentation of each course was very good.  The thing that marred the night for us was overcrowding the restaurant & filling almost all the tables.  The group at the table next to us were quite boisterous and loud - we thought that perhaps they were pre-celebrating SuperBowl.  Regardless they were so loud that we almost had to shout to hear each other at our table.  It's really too bad that some people are so inconsiderate of others.

The steakhouse was normally one of my favorites being a westerner, but the steaks were not as thick as they were on previous visits. The staff told me that they had switched suppliers and were now getting their beef from Florida.  Just goes to show that you can learn something new everyday - beef from Florida - who'd a thunk ??  We were here twice as well & I had both the rib-eye & the sirloin - both were about the same.  Next time I go, I thing I would opt for the ribs.  Again, on our last night at the resort, Maria came up with a last minute reservation at the Steakhouse for us & followed it up with a bottle of champagne !  Thanks again Maria !

We found the buffets were better this time that the last we were here.  The food selection was varied every night and had a different feature everynight.  We especially enjoyed the melon carvings that added to the eye-appeal of the food.  There was truly something available to suit almost anyone on any given night.  Complaints about the selections offered really cause me to wonder what some people expect!  Full marks here.

The paella cooked up on the beach Tuesdays really cannot be missed - truly outstanding !  No shortage of lobster, mussells, oysters, shrimp, or anything else you can imagine, and LOTS of it  !!  The Sangria also flows freely during this event as well.  Be sure to bring your camera !

Part III - The grounds and pool.

What can one say that hasn't been said before. WOW.

The grounds were immaculately groomed daily with all that that entails.  We were there for two full weeks and never saw any mess from the night winds left past 10. The staff were incredible at going about their tasks from sunup to the time guests were showing up after breakfast.  Several mornings on our way to breakfast we noted large amounts of leaves on the sidewalks blown from the trees. By the time we returned from breakfast, all would be cleaned up, as would the empty glasses & debris left behind by late night partiers.

Chambermaids could be seen every morning collecting fresh flower blooms from the bushes throughout the grounds for decorating the guests' rooms.

Maintenance of the pool areas appeared to be a major item addressed by the hotel.  Disrepair was not seen at any time during our vacation. A small army of workers would descend upon the pool areas each morning to sweep up debris and wash down the deck areas. Others would be scrubbing the water-line of the pools as well as all the pool edges.  Half a dozen or so palapas would be targetted each day for renewal.  A 3 foot wide non-slip coating was being applied to the pool decking along the pool perimeter which resulted in a strong solvent-type odor that forced many guests to re-locate for that particular day until that section was complete.  Small price to pay for a definite improvement aimed at the patrons' safety.  Daily pool activities included water polo, volleyball, and aerobics, not to mention lazing on the water on inflatables that one would have brought from home or purchased at the shops for a handsome price. Pool temperature was cool upon entering, but very refreshing and once in, most people remained for quite some time.  Full points awarded here.

Other activities that occurred to get guests to mingle were  Dart and Bocci tournaments, and Bingo.

    Part IV  -- THE BEACH

If one ever doubted why the Bavaro beach is rated in the world's top ten, only a quick glance will tell you why.   Miles and miles of white sand & gentle azure-blue ocean waves l*****g the beach make an indelible memory that stops you in your tracks to just try and absorb it all.  The little amount of weeds and flotsam washed ashore are cleaned up each morning before sunrise.  We made several walks for about 2 miles in each direction and were in awe as to how clear the beach was.  No rocks, garbage, or hazards were encountered.  Sure left a sad spot in my heart as I remembered how the Riviera Maya beach has changed post-Wilma and couldn't help but wonder if the same could happen here.

For all the nature-lovers out there, yes, topless was very prevalent along the beach areas. 'Nuff said.  Available lounge cots were available in both sunny and shady locations throughout the day all along the beach areas, although the locations close to the bars and lunch areas were in short supply as the day went on.

The usual beach activities included sailboards, Tandem Para-sailing, Hobie Cats, etc.  Beach vendors had a mini-mall set up for bartering about 1/2 down the beach southeast of the resort.  We were told successfull bartering was to get them down to 1/3 of their asking price.  Bartering is not something we enjoy, so we stayed away from these.

Sunrise is something everyone should see.
