can you tell me some of the common names in england around the 1700s????

i'm working on a novel set in that time but i don't want to accidentally name somebody a name that came from france or italy :)

so yeah....any common 1st or last names you can think of that they used a lot during that time period would be a big help :)

  1. John and Edward were very common for males.  Not sure about females.

  3. A lot of names in that time would be from occupations as

    that is basically how surnames came about that and where you were from (which is more for the nobility) so you could

    use Taylor, Cooper(makes barrels) Baker, Butcher and then add 'son' to the names like Taylorson, Cooperson, etc. because that is how they developed. Common first nmaes

    in that time would come from the Bible so anything you find in the Bible would be a name that would be used.
