Alone upon this wayward vessel I

Affix my gaze beyond this sinking ship

Content to sleep, I now lay down to die

One last great voyage be my final trip

Beyond the weary breakers let me go

Till far beyond the foaming sea I gaze

Amid the peril of this ebb and flow

My vict’ry call, triumphant, I will raise

All vanquished are the deeds I chose to do

A conquering hero, crowned in splendor here

My damaged armor, tarnished, now made new

Washed now away is all my doubt and fear

When all is done and now in death we sleep

It’s then, at last, our rest in peace is deep

I would like to know the country of origin if anyone knows. It sounds like it could be Irish to me, tell me what you think.

  1. sorry, i can't find anything on yahoo or google (it just says this question :D)  but it sounds more english (as in england) than irish to me.  probably renaissance, maybe later (probly 1500s to 1750 if i had to guess) and most likely about a navy officer.

it could be translated from a different language.  where did you see it?
