Most people end up their female betta dead while breeding bettas. First you need to make sure if your betta has bubble nest. Second, you should get a female betta(short fins) that cannot be smaller than the male or MUST equal or bigger than the male betta or it will end up dead.

When you breed, keep them in a 10 gallons tank with leafs, try to clean up the water often cuz they make water messy. After fry are released, remove female betta and let male betta take care of the fry. DO NOT use a strong filter or fry will be filtered.
