Can you tell me things about Veracruz, Mexico?

I just started dating a guy from Veracruz & was wondering if anyone could tell me some things about it. Like what it's like, what the people are like, typical things to do there, what it'd be like growing up there.. oh & if you could tell me about the soccer team too that'd be great! Really, any information would be great!

My mom is from that state...the soccer team (Los Tiburones de Veracruz) kind of suck...they are usually at the bottom of the list...the state has beautiful beaches along the coast, nice colonial architecture in Veracruz City and many Olmec ruins too
