and any other information regarding employment for dependents, gas coupons(if any), bargains for shopping, and anything else you wish you would have known before you got there. Thanks in advance!

  1. Jinhae, in South Korea (for those who don't know), is basically in Bumblefu#%. It is completely enclosed by mountains, and getting in and out is a hassle. Thankfully, the base is (of course) entirely self-supporting. Basically, and out of necessity, it is a very closely-knit community. Dependent employment is difficult, but base personnel will be able to tell you more about what is currently available. There should still be a "transition office" or whatever they call it this month, which will be INDISPENSABLE to you for adjustment issues, employment, local businesses and such, entertainment, etc.

Check out http://eng.jinhae.go.kr/main/, which is the city website in English. There really is nothing more that anyone can say that isn't on there.

Insider info: get a loquat plant or two when you get there...they are beautiful, but more importantly, the tea from it is indispensible.

Seungheung Temple and the nearby Youngchu Waterfalls are worth the trip. DO IT!

"Korean Buffet House" in Chung mu-dong (the neighborhood or district) is fantastic, and you might find yourself eating most of your meals there initially. There are a lot of expats who frequent the place as well, which is a nice slice of home. Ditto for the Hilton in Gwanghwa-dong.

Let me know what else you want to know (dprowe78@NOSPAMcomcast.net, just take out the NOSPAM) and I'll try to help!
