Can you tell me what kind of beetle bug this is?

I just saw this little beetle crawling on my window sill and I've never seen one before! It was all black and shiny with two red dots, one on each side of its back. It was shaped just like a ladybug, but it was much smaller than a typical ladybug. It was not the kind of beetle with the elongated body, it was very round.
