Hi! I am in Texas and this plant was given to my boyfriend by an elderly lady who's daughter lives in Florida. The daughter sent the plant to Texas. My boyfriend didn't ask what it was called. This is not the actual picture of our plant, it is just one that I found online that looks just like it. If you could tell me the name of the plant and how to take care of it I would greatly appriciate it.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Its a Bromeliad, some times called pitcher plants. It's a relative to the pineapple, spanish moss, air plants etc. After it flowers it sends up a couple of baby shoots then dies. not to worry as this is it'e cycle of life. They do  have striking flowers in just about every color. Don't over water it as moisture will rot the roots. I spray mist the leaves so that some water flows into the inside, or pitcher

  3. That is a Bromiliad, they are found in S.America & some other tropical areas. They can be found growing high in tree tops as they don't require soil to grow. We grow them here in Australia, mostly in pots in our case.Pineapples belong to the Bromiliad family.
