  1. It comes from the Paston Letters, written during the Reigns.

    I believe it is someone basicaly saying, she won't accept your ring as an offer of engagement, or a commitment but because I know you have loved her for a long time, you wouldn't want her to give it back because if she has it there, she might think of you daily and come to want you.
