  1. Based on what I can put together from your pictures... it looks like a home-built 14' skiff. My guess is that is has a 5' beam, and a hull depth of about 27" forward and 24" aft. Maybe, the boat weighs 110 lbs to 125 lbs.  So, if you have a way of weighing the boat, and my deminsions are close... then I would bet money it had a short shaft 15 hp outboard motor; and that is what I would put on it...

However, if you already have a 25 hp... and you are stuck with it, I think you are OK with that...

On the other hand... If your 25 hp is on the heavy side, and you are on the heavy side... You may have to sit a bit more forward than you normally would...

I know I would be real careful not to be sitting really close to the engine and gunning it...  It might attempt a vertical take-off... lol

  2. would it be outboard? this type of engine 10hp would do it.

  3. Not suitable for that size engine. You only need up to a 10 hp or so, because the transom isn't really strong enough and all will get is bow tilting and too much weight thrown to the stern.

  4. go green, get a couple of oars.

  5. its an upside down boat

  6. I would say 10 hp also, maybe 15.

It is not only the hp also the weight of the motor that the transome can handle.

  7. Sorry, no idea what type of boat it is but i certainly wouldn't put a 25hp engine on it. The hull shape is for slow displacement speeds so i would reckon a 5-6hp engine would be plenty, maybe give you about 8 knots.

  8. There should be a tag on the inside of the stern.  It would give the allowable HP. for this bout, and how much weight the boat can safely carry.  If there isn't such a tag, look for the molded in MFG. ID tag on the upper right of the stern, outside.  Then check with the Coast Guard for the information.  Some people call this the hull number, but it carries more information than you think.

  9. It's a nice looking boat. You did a good job with the painting.

I can't really get a good look at the transom, but from what I see a 25HP would be too big and heavy.

This is an old boat that you've made look nice. If you already have that 25HP motor, you could sell or trade it. That boat would look sharp with about a 10HP or under 50's vintage (restored) outboard. E-bay usually has several small outboards listed.

  10. I would suggest a 60hp if you realy want to get anywere
