Question:

Can you tell what breed my puppy is?

The shelter I adopted him from told me two different things; one person told me that he was a husky, while another person said he was chow. Now, could he be a mix of Chow and Husky? I've looked both breeds up, and in both, their ears are up, his are floppy and winglike. So I have no idea. Thanks.

  1. chow shepard mix

  2. Puppy ears are floppy.  Looks like you have a Chow.

  4. i don't see husky....i do see chow, but i'm not sure what else.

    cute pup though

  5. he's probably a mix of both....... he is soooo cute!!!

  6. He has a Chow muzzle, but I would say that there is some GSD and Retriever in there. He's a cutie! Maybe some Australian shepherd - they have ears like a retriever. I don't see any Husky.

  7. He's adorable!  I say Chow mix.  Some pups ears are floppy until they get older.

  8. He looks like a Chow mix.  Maybe with a Golden Retriever...

  9. Not every Husky or Chow has erect ears, in some dogs, no matter if they are well bred, their ears may droop.

But yours is still a pup, you'll have to wait for his ears to stand up, his ears will more than likely figure that standing up thing eventually.

Now, I definitely see Chow in your little fluff ball, no doubt.

I'm not thinking Husky, but GSD.

Look at these pictures of GSDs x Chows I found.

so, I'm pretty positive that's what your pup is. :]

Here is information on both breeds, research their temperament, see if your pup acts like these breeds:

    Enjoy him!

    ADD:

With GSDs, their ears 'pop up' fairly early, at about 2/3 months old. But with my friends GSD, his ears didn't erect until a week after turning 6 months old.

But as I said, there is a possibility his ears will not go up at all.

    ADD2:

There is a chance he is also mixed with Golden. I don't personally see it in him. As I said, I definitely see Chow and GSD. But he could be a mix of the three. Or something completely different!

He sure is adorable, whatever he is.

  10. I'm not so good with the breed thing but it is definitely a chow mix and he is such a cutie : D

  11. He's a mixed breed pup..  I think he looks like a shepherd/chow mix.  Although some golden retriever may be in the mix too.

Puppy ears are floppy, if he's a shepherd/chow mix, they will most likely stand on their own in a few weeks.

    ADDED

If he's 6 months now and his ears havent come up, they wont likely come up.  He problably has some golden retriever in his mix as well.

  12. Looks like a chow and german shepard mix to me. If it has a purple tongue chances are really good that it has some chow in it.

  13. I'd say he's a chow cross. Cute as a button, too.

  14. Chow Chow/Shepherd mix: http://www.dogsdeservebetter.org/Holiday...

    Chow/Collie mix: http://cdn-www.dailypuppy.com/media/dogs...

  15. He is probadly a german shepard chow mix! he is sooo cute!

  16. His muzzle makes me think of a German Shepherd. In fact, I saw a puppy at the shelter that looks similar to this one, except he has long fur. The puppy I saw was a shepherd mix, apparently.

In some breeds, puppies will be born with floppy ears, but will stand when they get to be adults. However, this dog's ears look like he may have gotten them from another breed. Can't think of what it's called though! If I remember, I'll edit my answer. :)

Overall, my guess would be a shepherd/chow mix.

  17. I would say definitely chow with a possible mix of either a golden or lab, very cute.

  18. I say Chow and German Shepherd.

If you want to know for sure, a new DNA test has been introduced recently where your veterinarian draws a blood sample from your dog and mails it in to the company who then examines the DNA of your dog. If your dog's DNA shows 12% or more of a certain breed of dog, say a Chow, then he or she will definitely have that breed mixed in.

My clinic is offering this test now but unfortunately it is very pricey... $140.

That being said, many people don't need to know that badly.

With my experience as a vet tech, I would like to say definitely chow and german shepherd.

  19. What you have there is a mix of a shiba inu and a golden retriever.  Both are great dogs.  (My BFF has a shiba, and i used to have a retriever.)  If you disagree look for youself.  Hope this helps.

  20. My Collie has floppy ears that will rise as she gets older.

The first thing I thought was Chow Chow.  The next was GSD or Lab.

  21. definately not a husky and perhaps his ears will stay like that

p.s he's adorable good job for saving him

  22. your puppy looks like to me that he is a chow/shepherd or a chow/retriever. if you look would at your puppy's tongue it should be like a purple or black cause chows and chow mix's have purple or black tongues

  23. he looks to me like a chow but mix with something else a mud or something cuz chow nd husky dont really look like the dog u have its similar but not alike

  24. He looks like a mix of tthe two. He's young, his ears will probably go up in a few weeks.

  25. I don't know that much but I see poodle eyes, a pit bull face frame, a bit of a cha-wawa. I also do see the chow in the color and the husky in the bit of tail i could see. You also need to consider the parents, what they were, they could have been mutts who had mutts for parents. Mutts are so cute!!! Your dog is absolutely adorable!!!! and yes he could be a mix. Congrats on the dog!

  26. With several breeds of dogs, the ears don't always stand up until they are a little older.  I will say that he doesn't look quite like any husky I've ever seen, or even like any chow I've ever met, but whatever he is he's very cute and I'm sure you will love him no matter what he is.
