Like in America southern and eastern accents are pretty telling.

  1. Sometimes. Depends on how strong it is. Not all American accents are strong either - the strong pronounced regional accents are the easiest to pick out.

Scottish is the hardest for me to understand at times.

  2. Definately! I live in what's known as the Black Country, its in the West Midlands and we have a really strong regional dialect. Take a listen:

  3. Yeah, it's usually quite easy, but accents are slowly dying off now, what with modern technology people from all over the country are talking to one another on a daily basis so everything is sort of sounding the same (or it will in around 200 years time)

You can always tell when someone is from the West Midlands, Cornwall, Yorkshire, Essex. Much like you can tell if someone is from NY or Texas.

  4. Yeah there are loads

    Scottish

    Welsh

    Cockney

    Cornish

    Birmingham accents (Brummie)

    Liverpool accents

    Hull accents

    etc...
