Question:

Can you throw your sofa...in the washing machine??

The fabric on the outside of cushions is removable and I faintly remember (I think) taking them off...and throwing them in the washer.

This sofa has been at a rental property of ours, and now desperately needs to be cleaned. I am using an upholstry cleaner and carpet cleaning vaccum, but there is one pesky cushion heavily stained. The stain comes up- but there seems to be several layers to it.

Can I put the cushion cover, upholstry in washing machine??? I've searched for washing instructions tag- none.

THANK YOU!

  1. Removable covers on sofas are basically for the purpose of putting them in the washing machine. If you have a warranty on the furniture, you may want to call the company, but if not, there's a very good chance it will come out fine if washed in the delicate cycle and dried with low heat.

  2. Yes of course you can without the cushion it self.  My advice to you is to only slightly dry them and leave them damp when you go to put them back on the cushion and then mold them to the foam,

    Best of luck

  3. Yes, you should be able to put the cushion cover, upholstery in the washing machine. I would pretreat the stain, wash using cold water on the gentle or hand wash cycle, especially if your washer has an agitator. You also may want to let them soak for about 10 minutes before using the agitator. In my opinion you should air dry to protect against shrinkage, or use the low setting on your drying. You could also dry on the low setting for a few minutes to remove wrinkles and then finish with an air dry. All the best.

  4. I am in the process of choosing fabric to have my old brittle sofa reupholstered. That means I can look up cleaning instructions in the fabric books I have borrowed.

Some fabrics are washable, especially the indoor-outdoor ones. The chenille ones and some others are not, though they will have a coating applied to make them cleanable with a damp cloth or by a professional company.

  5. yes u can if it fits, make sure it shud be able to move freely within water.n try washing inside out!!!good luck

  6. if it fits. otherwise, wash it by hand.

  7. Yes you can. I use regular liguid detergent . Spot treat the stain and wash in cold water . I do not put in dryer. There is also a stain on the foam if you look. I would place a piece of material or old wash clothe on it so it does not bleed through if it gets wet.
