Question:

Can you tile a wall and floor before fitting a bath?

Basically I was thinking of getting a bathroom suite removed, completely tiling the room (floors and walls) then fitting the bath. However most people have suggested and forced the issue of fitting the bath first and having the tiles resting on top.

  1. if it's a claw foot tub, then you do as the first example, tile then set the tub

if however it a normal built in tub, the tub is ALWAYS set in first, then tiled to it

  2. There is a few ways around this.

Floor tiles shouldn't be an issue since the bath will be set in via a frame or has free standing legs. Be aware tho of all the additional struggle and cost to tile in areas that will never see daylight again.

As for wall tiles I personally would wait till the bath is in, however, if you know where the bath is going to fit you could leave a foot or so of the area untiled that way when your bath goes in you will get a better/flush finish and be able to grout and silicon in one hit.
