Can you trace a cars history in the UK?

I have a car with no service history. I have the V5 which states there have been 4 previous owners, and myself.

That is basically all the info that I have on her and I'd like to get more if I can.

I was wondering if there was any way that I could do this, getting info such as copies of prior MOTs, finding out if any services have ever been done etc.

She's a 1998 Ford Mondeo if that makes any difference.

  1. Try mytextcheck.co.uk, they'll charge £3 and you'll get a text message with full history if it has any secret hidden problems.

  2. Try This

  3. You won't get copies of old MOTs as until a couple of years ago they were all handwrittem.

You could get a HPI check (see link) done to see if there have been any major accidents.

But seeing as you own the car and it's pretty old (10 years) it probably isn't worth spending the money.

  4. Did you get anyone to look the car over before you bought it,the AA or RAC will do this for a fee,the DVLA swansea might help,it's an old car mate with 4 owners, you have their names ask them.

  5. First, it's not a 'she'.

You can check the MOT history for recent years at http://www.motinfo.gov.uk , and a Ford dealer may have some record of any servicing carried out by any main dealer since new.

It's also worth asking the previous owner - you have their details on the V5, either use bt.com to get a number, or write to them.

  6. this could help.

  7. On a 10 year old car it is all a bit irrelevant - the only thing you really need to know is whether it has had the cam belt changed. Chances are you wont find out though so you might want to invest in a Haynes manual and a cam belt and spend a saturday afternoon fitting it.
