  1. An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a numerical identification (logical address) that is assigned to devices participating in a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol for communication between its nodes

OK NOW TO SIMPLIFY THAT DEFINITION.

an IP address is what identifies your Computer or other internet connected device to the Networks and servers that allow you to connect to the internet.

Your IP will change a lot If you have what is called a DYNAMIC IP ( dynamic ip's change frequently, Most people have these) and you would probably pay extra for a STATIC IP(always the same never changes) so you would probably know if you had that.

here is a Metaphor to explain it in non tech terms:

Imagine you live in a RV and you spending your life traveling the country stopping for a few days or a week in different places. You would probably use a mail service to have your physical mail delivered to different places you would be. Imagine every new address  you got your physical mail at and stayed at for a few days  was your IP address and you and the RV are your Computer, Your computer isn't moving instead it's new addresses come to it. your ISP ( Interent Service Provider) Is like the Physical Mail Service that would keep track of where you were in the Rv and send you your mail. Does that make sense?  I hope so.

  2. No, your IP address has nothing to do with your MySpace account. Myspace lives on a series of servers that aren't connected to you, except when you visit your page. Myspace might have logs that show what IP address your coming from, but no one can get that information from them.

If this was possible, it would have to be an inside job of some kind.

  3. For most people, IP addresses change on a fairly regular basis. Even if someone got your IP, it would be useless within a short time. Even if they managed to track it, it wouldn't do much good - they might be able to narrow down the city and state you're in, but that's about all. It is not the same thing as getting personal information, passwords, or anything like that.

  4. If they already have your IP address, they could get more information by using http://www.ip2location.com/demo.aspx
