Can you train crickets to be quiet?

I ask this because there is a whole slew of them hanging out behind my file cabinet. I banged it a couple of times and it seemed to work, could it be possible that we can train crickets to do commands?

  1. LMAO, yeah there's a trick to getting them to be quiet.....

    shhhhhhhhh.....that sound is bug spray....LOL

  2. Only male crickets chirp.  So what you have back there is a cricket sausage-fest.  Get yourself some female crickets with loose morals, if you know what I mean.  And send them back there.  They will tire the males out and the chirping will stop.  If it helps you can wear a purple velvet fedora with a feather in it to feel more pimp-like.

  3. It might be possible to train crickets to do a few simple commands, but getting them to shut up seems unlikely.

The males chirp to attract a mate.  So a chirping cricket is a horny cricket.  You're going to have to offer them something pretty darned attractive to get them to stop chirping.

They will stop chirping for a little while if they are disturbed, but that's only because they're afraid they're going to get eaten.

There is a chemical that will apparently make crickets chirp all the time - whether they are disturbed or not.  Allegedly this was used by ninjas who would use these crickets to cover their approach.  Guards would get suspicious if all the crickets in an area stopped chirping - but a ninja equipped with a chirping cricket wouldn't arouse their suspicions.

So maybe you can train your crickets to keep chirping, and parley that talent into becoming a ninja!
