Question:

Can you transfer to cal state with an F?

I got accepted to Cal State Fullerton for the Spring 09 semester, but they haven't received my transcripts yet. When they do, they'll find out I got an F in biology last semester. Does this ruin my acceptance? I know out of high school, they won't take you if you have anything less than a C. Everything else on my transcript is good, except this one class. Any ideas?

  1. i dont think that u will get in

  2. I know that the UC's will decline you if they found out about failing grades. What you needed to do as soon as you had the intuition you did bad in that class was to write to them and explain to them you were going to retake the class over the summer (at a JC).

At this point they might not take you in... or I may be wrong.

    Good luck

  3. possibly

  4. The only way to know for sure is to contact CSF directly and ask your admission counselor. Explain why you got an "F" - and please, don't blame the teacher.

I agree it is a great idea to retake the course, but your transcript WILL show the original grade as well as the retake.  Transcripts are official records of all academic performance and nothing is 'erased'.  Also, be aware the original credits for the course will continue to be factored into your final GPA, so your GPA will be affected.

One "F" is usually not a deal breaker, but I've never worked for CFS and don't know how firm they are in their standards.

    good luck

  5. If you have time to retake the class, do it!  I believe that when you retake the class, that will over-write your initial grade and it won't even show up on your transcript.

    Good luck.

  6. That would likely depend on your overall GPA and whether it was a class related to your major.  They might accept you, but you'd probably have to get permission to go back to your old school and take it over to remove the offending grade.
