The Murder of Franz Ferdinand, the Austrian-Hungarian succesor to the throne was a politically convenient event for Germany because it offered an opportunity for it to be able to participate in a war where it was higly possible to gain even more economic and territorial power, with the help of Austrian-Hungarian forces when fighting against Serbia and winning.
