Im 16 years old and without a drivers license. I want to go to the US, but dont have a passport. I would be going by bus if possible. I have a health card, Canadian Citizenship and social insurance number and an expired passport that expired last year. Would i be able to go from Canada to the US thru lets say greyhound?

  1. The rules are constantly changing and most of these answers are out of date.  I will provide as many links as you want to the correct answer.  (The first link - scroll down to Canadians 18 and under).  You only need a passport to fly.  18 and under can travel by land or sea with just a birth certificate.  Next summer it will be passport only for everyone.

However, that rule is if you are traveling with your parents.  If you are traveling alone or with other adults that aren't your parents, you need signed permission from your parents the specifically outline your trip, including how to contact them of customs decides to double check.

  2. Sadly, no. the made a law a while ago requiring all people passing any border to have a passport. W i think is g*y since there is no problem between the u.s. and canada

  3. i went from Oregon, through the San Juan Islands, and into Victoria BC, and then back to Oregon.  I never needed a passport.  However I did need I.D. I'm not sure but it seems like they wanted to see my birth certificate too.  But I was also over 18 yrs old.  I don't know if they would treat a minor the same.

  4. Not anymore.  You need to get a passport.

  5. No, the US government requires Candians to have a passport to the enter the USA.
