Addendum:

You could probably go to your hardware store buy a length of telephone wire, connect one end to the nearest telephone Jack in your house by taking off the cover and matching the wires (Color coded) to the wires. run the wire to your room and attach a modular phone Jack (purchased at your local hardware store)  to the other end. Not necessarily pretty, but effective I have done something very similar to this and ran a dialup modem on it for years.

Actually there is a device you can buy at Best Buy. I am not sure of the name but my mother is in the process of buying one for our new office as we speak. They DO exist!

no, electrical wires are not for transmitting phone signals.  You can put a phone jack where an outlet was, but it requires totally re-wired with phone line.  Even then it probably wouldnt be a good idea unless you pulled the electric lines out, because the electric lines would cause interferrance with the phone signal being that close

Haha. No my friend.  Completely different cords my friend.  Instead of plugging your xbox 360 directly into the phone line with an Ethernet cable, use wireless internet.

There are devices that plug into the wall outlet that will turn it into a phone jack.  You need two.  One has to be near an existing phone jack and plugs into it.
