Can you turn a fraction into a decimal in an inequality?

so the problem is 5+1/3n< or equal to 6.

do i turn the 1/3 into a decimal and then solve or what?

any help?!

  1. you divide 1 by 3 using a pencil and paper and you will get a decimal. or you can just type 1/3 and you will get the decimal. after  you find the decimal, add 5 to it and yo will know if it smaller or equal to 6

    1/3n&lt; or equal to 1

  3. You can, but it&#039;s not a good idea if the fraction is not exact.  It won&#039;t make much difference if the fraction is 1/4 = .25.  For you, though, the fraction is 1/3 = .3333333333333.....

    Well, you get the idea.

    If you really don&#039;t like fractions, multiply through by the least common denominator and get rid of them.  In this case, the LCD is 3, so

    3(5 + n/3) &lt;= 3(6)

    15 + n &lt;= 18

    and solve it from there.  You really want to get over your fraction-phobia, but this may help in the short term.
