  1. Yeah but usually the people that underhand serve are on the JV team. So unless you're a really good player you'll probably on JV not Varisty.

  2. Our school allows it b/c we all very short...  But some of us can do over hand... at our school, it's better if you do over hand, but under hand is still fine.

  3. yes in middle school you can but your more likely to make it if you have an overhand!! and in high school it's a must to make the team.

  4. Well for my school, our coaches are fine with that. I'm entering 8th grade too. But only for middle school! In middle school, the most important thing in serving is consistency. I very much you do overhand. Tryouts are in 3-4 weeks, but if you practice everyday outside and work out, you'll get it. If you're not sure how to overhand serve, go on the internet and look. Or find hand positions that are right for you and that help you make the ball go far and hard. Hit it with your palm; you should not even hear a smack, just a PLUMP. And when you're about to hit, face your palm in an upward position, but at an angle. Not too upward. And swing fast! It took me 3 months to do an overhand serve, but if you really want it, you'll get it. First start at the 10 ft line then take 2 steps back when you've hit it over the net 10 times (in a row). So my coach said he would rather prefer overhand so that you also know how to overhand in high school. But like I said, consistency is the key. Don't stress yourself, but have faith because you will get it. And PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! Good luck!

  5. The NFSHSA rules say that you can serve underhand, overhand or even side arm.  However, the coach may not let you serve underhand.  Some coaches do not allow the underhand serve even though the rules say you can.

  6. Depends on the school. On my middle school team its a big NO-NO. Though i have played club teams with girls that serve under hand. My advice is dont serve under hand at try outs. an overhand serve will impress coaches.

  7. Um you can but i doubt you will make it :)

No affence but most girls will be serving overhand. Unless you have a VERY powerful underhand or u are a good setter bumper or spicker. If u cant get ur overhand over. Try practicing it in your garage against the wall :)

    hope u make it

    and hope i helped

  8. Yes you can,But it is good if you can under hand and over hand bc when you get in highschool they will expect you to over hand serve so its better to learn now and be ahead of every one else!

    good luck :)

  9. not in my scool they def. dont let u on the team if you only under hand serve

  10. Yes but it isn't as effective as overhand in most cases. If you can't get your overhand over the net go with underhand. Also ask your coach if you can I'm not sure about different school rules. I would start ti think about trying overhand though it would help a lot.

  11. It depends on your school, and the league you're in. I'm from a Div. 1 school in Cali, so no. I was jump serving in the 7th grade. My league is very competitive so I had to learn over-hand serving in 5th grade. I visited Ohio, and in High School they were still mostly under-hand. So it depends. However, I would highly suggest putting some serious effort into learning to over-hand serve. It will pay off indefinitely. Once you can consistently serve over-hand, try learning to float serve, and then jump serve. It takes time and patience, but once you've mastered a killer serve, and serve 15 straight points in a game, it makes it all worth the effort. Good luck!

  12. It depends on the school. My school you can, but we have played teams that could not. Ask your coach or someone on the team and see what they say.

I would practice my over hand serve if I had a choice though. It is harder to return and easier to get Ace points! Good luck

  13. depends, but it's discouraged. you won't get to serve that much

  14. In my old middle school in 7th grade you are allowed to serve under hand. But in 8th grade they encourage you to serve over hand because in high school they want EVERYONE serving over hand.

  15. Here is the way I serve, I had one of the best underhand serves of middle school.. Most middle school teams, you want to make the team, you need a good overhand and underhand serve. Here is some tips for both:

    When you serve underhand-

Hold the ball in the hand you are not hitting with. Have your left foot in front if you hit with your right hand, and right foot in front if you it with your left. Plant your feet firmly on the ground, and have tight leg and stomach muscles, you don't just use your arm like many people think.

When you go to hit hold your hand so your fist is facing the ball. Do NOT throw the ball in the air and try and do an underhand serve, you will have horrible aim if you do.

Swing your arm holding a tight fist, swing hard at the ball and follow through.

    Overhand serve:

Take your time when serving and PICTURE exactly what you want to happen with your serve.

Start with left foot in front and right foot back

Lift and release the ball in front of your hitting shoulder (12 inches above the hand that released the ball)

Contact the ball with a strong hand at the highest point possible with the base of your hand (arm should be extended and locked)

~ If you want to make the team, you should practice both types of serves.

    =D Good luck!!!

  16. no not on average
